Hi Lindsey! Tell me a little bit about your background, and what you have been up to prior to becoming a mom?
I’m a nurse and work in the pharmaceutical industry monitoring adverse events in clinical trials. Prior to becoming a mom I was also coaching field hockey at my high school alma mater, Ursuline Academy (go Lions!). I coached for three seasons and really enjoyed being a part of the field hockey community again (I played all four years while I was there).
Your daughter was born almost a year ago. What was your experience like becoming a mom? What have been some of the challenges, and some of the highlights?
Becoming a mom has been the most joyful experience of my life. I had a wonderful pregnancy and really enjoyed that time. My labor and delivery was also great thanks to the support of my
amazing husband, Greg, and doula, Kacey. We didn’t find out the gender of our baby during pregnancy, and seeing Greg’s announcement that our baby was a girl was priceless.
The biggest challenge for me was letting go of control. As much as I try to control the
schedules, activities, etc., sometimes Olivia has her own agenda. Highlights include seeing our family meet her for the first time, seeing her love on our dog (she ADORES him), and now that she is a little bit older, I really enjoy getting to know her personality.
How did motherhood change you?
Motherhood has helped me to slow down. I am a busybody and like to be moving and doing something, but that’s not realistic when you have to pack up an infant. I’ve spent more time at home and outside in the past year than I had before and it’s been a good change. I have also learned the value of my time and that it’s okay to say “no” to others in lieu of spending that time with my family.
How did you hear about Babierge, and what got you interested in starting your own franchise here in Cincinnati?
I heard about Babierge when planning our first post-baby vacation. I knew that I didn’t want to bring all of our baby stuff with us but wasn’t sure what other options there were. I found Babierge’s website and loved the idea of knowing that we would be renting clean, high-quality baby gear. As I explored the website I learned more about the business and knew that it was something I wanted to be a part of.
What does Babierge do, and what makes it unique?
Babierge works with independent service providers—called Trusted Partners (TPs)—around the country to rent high-end baby equipment. Quality is what sets us apart from others in the industry; not only do we provide quality gear but our customer service is extraordinary.
My goal is to make traveling with kids easier by providing all the comforts of home. My customers have included grandparents hosting grandkids, friends hosting out-of- town friends with kids, and those visiting Cincinnati for weddings and other activities. My customers love the fact that I can deliver and set up all equipment prior to their guests’ arrival so that they don’t have to worry about it, they just get to enjoy the company!
How have you been able to find some balance working and running a small business with being a mom too?
The two things that keep me balanced are working out and getting enough sleep. Having a supportive husband is also very helpful; Greg is amazing in that way!
Is there any advice you would give to other new moms?
Enjoy the snuggles, ask for help, and do what works best for you and your family (even if it’s completely different than what you sister, neighbor, and best friend do)!
