Recipe: Czech Goulash

Simple soups and stews are a great way to cook once, and keep your family fed for days, or weeks. This recipe can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for a week, or frozen while you are still pregnant to be pulled out and thawed later once the baby arrives!

We got all of the ingredients needed at Whole Foods, right here in Cincinnati. As a full disclaimer, they gifted us all of the ingredients for this recipe!

Czech Goulash

  • 1 large white onion

  • 2-3 tablespoons of oil

  • 3 – 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 TBS caraway seeds

  • 1-2 lbs stewing beef, cut into 1" cubes

  • 1 TBS of paprika

  • 33oz beef broth

  • 1/2 TBS Marjoram

  • 2 medium sized potatoes, chopped into 1" cubes

  • Salt & Pepper

  1. Heat the oil in large pot or dutch oven, and saute the onion and garlic until the onions are tender.

  2. Stir in paprika, and cook 1 additional minute.

  3. Use a paper towel to completely dry the beef cubes, and then add them to the pan to brown on all sides.

  4. Add caraway seeds, marjoram, broth, and salt and pepper to taste.

  5. Bring to a boil.

  6. Lower heat and cook slowly, covered, 45 minutes.

  7. Add potatoes and continue to cook about 20 minutes longer, until potatoes are tender.

Serve warm with dumplings or crusty bread, or cool and store in the fridge or freezer to eat later!
