Plus Size & Breastfeeding

It's World Breastfeeding Week 2017! In honor of the week, we wanted to share with you all an update to an interview we did a few months back with Leche Libre founder, Andrea Newberry. Back then, Andrea was just launching Leche Libre, a clothing line designed specifically for new moms who don't want to compromise fashion for function when breastfeeding. Her story is inspiring and real, sharing her struggles as a new mom, and fledgling entrepreneur (with no prior business background!)

Well, today she is officially expanding the line to include an exclusive line for plus sized women! Be sure to check it out, both on the official website where you can get in on pre-orders, or through their Kickstarter campaign, where you can grab an early-bird discount! We promise you will love it.

Tips for Plus Size Breastfeeding

In honor of Leche Libre, and plus sized women everywhere here are our top 3 tips for curvy nursing moms:

  • Using a small rolled up towel under your breasts can help give them some extra support while nursing.
  • The football hold might be a comfortable way to position your baby so that he or she can have control, and you can help assist in moving any excess breast tissue from her nose so she can latch and stay latched! Use a bunch of pillows too under your arms and under your baby.
  • Remember: being plus size doesn't automatically mean things will be harder. You can succeed in breastfeeding, with personalized education and good support.
Since our interview, Andrea has been awarded Outstanding Woman in the Field of Fashion by the City of Chicago (her hometown), and has been featured on the Huffington Post as well as in Forbes.
